Andrew grew up in Brisbane, Australia before attending University where he studied LAW graduating with an LLB. He achieved this having studied part time while working in his first proper job in a legal practice which he started at the age of 17 after leaving school.

Being the youngest son of working class parents who were always actively involved in helping many others in society, it was always Andrew’s aspiration to do the same on a worldwide basis. As a result, Andrew left the legal profession in the early 1990’s, and embarked on his career as a serial entrepreneur, and C suite businessman.

Most recently, Andrew has been CEO (Global), of Private Equity Gateway Group (11 years), and overseen its growth across many sectors and regions.

From his work with Private Equity Gateway Group Andrew has, and continues to hold interests in a number of significant, successful companies and organisations, in the fields of software development, big data analytics, consumer credit, hybrid financing, investment vehicles, Pre IPO entities (one of which recently experiencing a x10 times multiple in 15 months on the ASX), coal highwall mining and offtake, tech platforms, intuitive learning platforms, education, training, and many more.

Andrew is also involved in a number of charitable trusts and initiatives around the world to continue the legacy instilled in him by his upbringing.

He has led numerous, high-level consulting and advisory projects and has two decades of Operational Specialised Risk Management, Cultural Change, Security and Safety experience in over 16 countries. Dr Gav has a National Security Clearance NV1 and is a fellow of ARPI, ISRM, GIA, IML as well as a RSecP and CPP. He is considered Australia’s leader in the field of Psychology of Risk.

John Brennan, Chief Risk Officer, Victorian Managed Insurance Authority

John is an experienced executive leader and performance coach. As a human resources specialist for 25 tears, his professional trajectory saw him practice in industrial relations, before crossing into the field of organisation dynamics in the early 2000’s, where he completed his Master’s thesis on the topic of complex cultural change and leadership[ transition. Since then, John has been obsessed with how organisations work, how organisation culture develops and the impact that leaders have on the systems they lead. He specialises in coaching leaders and teams t thrive and is a coach and advisor to executive across Australia, North America, Europe andAfrica.

In 2015, John joined the Victorian Manage Insurance Authority (VMIA) to lead a program of organisational culture renewal and leadership development, which has returned stunning results. The VMIA is the insurer and risk adviser to the State of Victoria. Working in this industry offered Johnbreakthrough insights into the potential and power of dynamic risk management in shaping culture and organisational performance. Consequently, in 2018 he accepted the role of Chief Risk Officer, overseeing VMIA’s financial and non-financial risks and operating as risk culture coach.

Paul has over 25 years of operational and management consulting experience in both the public and private sectors, during which time he has worked with and provided management advisory and capacity development services to a wide range of industry groups throughout Australia and internationally – with this encompassing a number of major government, infrastructure, transport, and oil & gas projects.

A Fellow of the Australian Risk Policy Institute (FARPI), Chartered Generalist OHS Professional (ChOHSP) and Certified Master Anti-Terrorism Specialist (CMAS), his specific areas of expertise relate to health/safety/wellbeing and security risk management and capacity development on a personal, organisational and societal level.

The Parsons Brinkerhoff Arup Joint Venture (PBAJV) also worked with the Thiess John Holland Joint Venture to deliver the Northern Busway Windsor to Kedron section, and the Airport Roundabout Upgrade, making this the largest road infrastructure project undertaken in Australia (Approximately $4.8B).
  • Established, implemented and maintained a number of key risk management systems for the PBAJV design element of the project.

Tony McGuirk has had an exemplary career in Emergency Management leadership in the UK, as both Chief Executive and Chief Fire Officer, with over 40 years’ experience in emergency and public-sector organisations. He has managed major incidents including multiple rescues, large scale pollution incidents, major evacuations, and major floods.

He has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management, he is Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers, a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety management, and a Graduate of the Harvard Business School. Alongside consultancy work, he is the Director of Hazmat & Specialised Support for the New South Wales EPA.
